Under 15's beat Harborne

As another Sunday match is cancelled due to appalling weather thought it was time Under 15's success was reported.
Last Sunday 8th July saw MACC under 15's travel to Harborne (who were lying 2nd in the premier league before this match,) for once the sun was shining and all was well with the world.
We lost the toss and were put into bat. Our first three wickets were lost cheaply and with Ameer Butt, Richard Brown and Kamran Qamar all out quickly we were struggling at 24-3 and it looked unlikely that we would bat out our overs until Parminder Singh took control of events smashing everything out of the ground. Much searching in gardens for the ball followed. He scored an impressive 81 ably supported by James Rogers 47. Ashfield posted an impressive 202-9 in their 25 overs.
Harborne were out played and struggled against accurate bowling from Yassar Sadiq who took 3 wickets, Richard Brown 2 wickets and Syed Ali who managed 2 maidens in his 5 over spell.
Ashfield looked sharp in the field and put on an impressive display of teamwork. Well done to Ian Anson an Under 13 player and Tom Colesby an Under 11 player who both held their own and contributed to an impressive win. Harborne evetually made 136-8 and for once we went home feeling positive about a job well done. See what you can do when you try lads!
Thanks to Lewis and Graham for looking after the team on the day and Chelle for scoring.
Next match 22nd July at home to Moseley. Now that would be a good one to win!!

MACC team A.Butt, R.Brown (capt), K. Qamar, P.Singh, J.Rogers, I.Anson, Y.Siddiq, S.Ali, H. Faiz, Tom Colesby, K.Sohail

Latest coaching

On Friday the Under 9 and Under 8 squads joined up for a coaching session. First team player James gave some help on bowling and after some practise we started a match.
Felix was the captain of one team and he was joined by Harry, Josh, Matthew, Kristian, James, Navneet and the other Felix. Kingsley captained the opposing team and was supported by Tommy, Pablo, Connor, Ewan, Dominic and Leo.
Felix's team batted first and scored 87, thanks mainly to some good hitting by Navneet. Ewan took a wicket, Pablo took two wickets in two balls and there was excellent fielding from Tommy (as always) and Connor, who managed to take a difficult catch at the second attempt. Special mention goes to Dominic whose bowling really improved thanks to James' coaching.
Kingsley played a captain's role when it was his team's turn to bat with some excellent shots. Despite some top class bowling from Harry the bowling side could not take enough wickets and Connor made sure his team got enough runs with some big hits. Kingsley's team finally finished victorious with 103 runs.
More coaching and another match on Friday at 5.30.

Latest training session

On Wednesday the Under 9s joined the under 10s and 11s for some coaching on stance and forward defensive shots. After that we had a three a side match with Pablo, Tommy and Will taking on Hal, Ewan and Kingsley.
Pablo took two wickets in the first over, Tommy took the second over and Will took the third. Hal top-scored with Ewan and Kingsley contributed useful runs.
In reply Tommy and Will made a good start but Hal's bowling turned the match with four wickets in his over. In the last over Pablo and Tommy battled to score the winning runs but Ewan (with a wicket in between a few wides) saw his team to victory.
More coaching on Wednesday 4th April from 6.30 to 7.30. All welcome.

Under 9s get ready for new season

The under 9 squad have been getting ready for the new season with indoor training at Bordesley Green Girls School. Highlights last week included some great catches from Tommy and Kingsley showing what a useful bowler he is. Ewan top-scored in the quick cricket and Pablo took two wickets in one over, one of them ending up with the ball stuck between the wickets! Will played with his usual enthusiasm and showed potential as a wicketkeeper.
Don't forget training on Wednesdays from 6.30 to 7.30.
